Information Wanted on Mary Payne Sutton Veny

Post by admin » Tue Jun 01, 2004 2:19 pm

The following email has been received. If anyone can help, please will they let me know by sending me a personal message, email through the Sutton Veny web site or post here:

My paternal grandfather, Thomas East, was stationed at Sutton Veny during WWI, and there met his wife, whose name before marriage was, I believe, Mary Bertha Payne. I’m not sure whether they were married there or back here in Australia. I think Thomas East could have been in the 9th battalion, but I’m not sure. They named their eldest son (my father) Alexander Thomas Sutton East, with the “Sutton” part being after Sutton Veny, where they met.

I was wondering if you had any information about Mary Payne from Sutton Veny, or anything else of interest relating to the couple. I never met my grandfather. He died before my mother even met him. I think he would have been in his early 40s when he went to England during WWI.

Thanks for any information you can provide
