Many of you will have seen this being discussed in the Journal and there are plenty of posters and fliers in circulation.
The idea of Community Messaging is to set up a system, open to anyone, whereby the Police and Neighbourhood Watch organisations can disseminate relevant information more easily and quickly. This is via e-mail, text-messaging or even landline. Warminster (urban and rural) is one of the pilot areas. Other organisations may become involved at a later date.
Individuals may choose the topics they wish to be informed about and can opt out of those they consider irrelevant.
The sort of occasions where community messaging might prove an asset are, for example, a missing child or elderly person, or a spate of burglaries. Information about road closures or flooding has also been mentioned as worthy of passing around the community.
If anyone would like to be involved they can log in to http://www.wiltsmessaging.co.uk where they can register. If you do not have a computer, I have application forms – as do the Police.
