Soldier Search

Post by Stephen » Thu Dec 20, 2007 12:33 pm

The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum has a search facility linked to their database of soldiers who have served in the Regiment. Only 1st World War names have been included to date but work is underway to input the remainder.

The site also contains information and memorabilia for The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment, the predecessor regiment to the RIFLES which since April 2007, is the local Infantry Regiment for Wiltshire.

The link to the site is here:

and the forum is here:

Stop Press 27 Apr 08: A new free searchable database with 10,000 entries of 19 Century soldiers who served in the 28th (North) Gloucestershire Regiment has been added to the web site. Many of these soldiers were Irish and as the Regiment went to Australia in 1835, many soldiers probably settled in Australia as well.
