An overdue update

Post by PRS » Mon Feb 04, 2013 8:19 am

I have a couple of points this month. The first is that the police are receiving reports of a number of thefts from parked cars. It is no use hiding your handbag or laptop under a rug or coat on the back seat. They should be out of sight in a locked boot – or, preferably, not left in the vehicle at all.

Secondly, there are still cases of “scams” being carried out by rogues who will telephone you purporting to be your bank. Never give any of your personal details and certainly do not agree to any further action without checking with your bank – on a number that you know to be authentic or by visiting the branch. Such callers can sound very convincing and may well end up creaming hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds from your account.

Another caller to avoid it someone who says he represents Microsoft and has spotted a fault on your computer which he would like to help you correct. Do not be fooled!

If anyone gets either of these types of calls, I would be happy to discuss it and advise how to go about checking their authenticity.

Once again,, a reminder that the non-urgent telephone number for the Police is 101. You should dial 999 if a crime is in progress or if people or property are at risk.
