We were fortunate enough to be able to visit this newly-opened Centre recently. It provides a marvellous impression of the departure of Australian troops for Europe in 1914.
Each visitor is given a card bearing the photograph and name of a member of the forces as well as a hand-held commentary device. The card can be placed against a reader on many of the displays and the details of the serviceman on that card are then displayed. The electronic device is held against a logo on a display and further details are given about that display.
As the attached photograph shows, the Centre is on the top of one of the hills in Albany overlooking the harbour. Whilst we were there a cruise ship made its way out of the bay - as so many ships in the First and Second Convoys did 100 years ago.
Unfortunately, in spite of trying, we were unable to make contact with any of the relevant staff at the Centre.
A visit is highly recommended if one is in that part of West Australia.
Any information relating to Australia and the Anzacs
