Scam call from "bank".

I have just been contacted by a resident of Sutton Veny who recently received a telephone call purporting to come from her bank. The caller asked for her date of birth and said that she would be unable to draw any money if she did not give further details. Fortunately she had the good sense to termi...

I attach a sensible circular from Wiltshire Police: Seasonal Warning to Householders - Burglary Summer is on its way and with the warmer weather it is considered prudent to remind people about the dangers of leaving the windows and doors of their homes insecure • Every year at about this time, ther...

No, Upton Lovell is a separate village - about 4 miles from SV as the crow flies (longer by road).

Re: the vineys of sutton veny

It will be interesting to see which shop it was that your family ran. When we came to SV in 1969 there were three shops, one of which included the post-office. Now there are none! Opposite (well, almost opposite) the church there are several houses, some of which are relatively recent. I suspect you...

Re: the vineys of sutton veny

To the best of my knowledge there are no Vineys in Sutton Veny now (and I have lived in the village for 42 years).
There is one in the telephone directory in Warminster.
Where do you live?

Burglar alarms

Every so often the peace of the village is shattered by someone’s burglar alarm going off. It is often difficult to know what one should do in these circumstances, but here are a few suggestions (that should be exercised with extreme caution): · If you are a neighbour, find someone to accompany you ...

FIREWORKS!

Remember, remember...
...to ensure your house is locked, with some lights left on, if you are going down to the village bonfire and firework get-together on Saturday night.
Also ensure your pets are somewhere they can hide!

Enjoy it.

Re: Where is/was 'Pilk'?

The Poulk is a single (not very old) house. There are East and West Poulk Cottages at Sutton Parva (east of the village, nearer Tytherington). Akeham Bottom no longer exists, but that area could well have been where Springhead was built as council houses and bungalows. It is possible that Akeham cou...
