We wanted to write and express our heartfelt gratitude for your email, following the ABC broadcast of our ANZAC service. This annual act of remembrance is now a 95 year old tradition in the school and it was moving to hear how it touched so many people across Australia. We are very proud of the children and their sense of occasion. They kindly donated the flowers for the posies and baked ANZAC cookies for the afternoon tea.
Our class names are: Auckland, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Elliston, Geraldton and Nelson (incidentally, they were alphabetical until the school grew and we had to add two more names!) Each year we receive silk poppies from the RSL in Geraldton and the children place these on the war graves each November (Armistice Day – 11am, 11th Nov).
We have been inundated with messages and kind words from you all and will endeavour to make a more personal response to those of you who asked specific question but please bear with us, as this may take us a while.
In the meantime, thank you and best wishes from us all at Sutton Veny CE Primary School
Miss Rachael Brotherton (Headteacher/Principal) and Mrs Nicky Barnard (ANZAC Leader)
