The Red Ensign (or Red Duster as it is sometimes known) will fly from the church flagpole on 3 Sep to mark Merchant Navy Day. The day honours the brave men and women who kept our island afloat during both World Wars and celebrates our dependence on modern day merchant seafarers, who are responsible for 95% of the UK's imports, including half the food we eat.
